When you think of a band playing a field, you generally think of it being some sort of stadium, ala Turner Field, Wrilgey Field or Soldier Field.
This show was not played at a stadium of any sort, just a huge field where soldiers sometimes participated in PT.
A grandstand stage was set up and the field was split by plastic tape (like police line) to separate the soldiers from the civilians. I found this out when a soldier told me I had to move from stage left where Maya generally plays to stage right.
This bugged me a little at first, because that's the side I've seen most Donnas shows, but when the soldiers came out I was beyond relieved. They were packed in tightly, almost as far back as the eye could see. They'd been in basic training and hadn't really enjoyed entertainment of any kind, so they brought a crazy energy to the show; many may not have known who the Donnas were when the show started, but you could tell tehy were thrilled to be there.
Joanna Cotton played first, followed by Angie Aparo. They played fine, but The Donnas of course took it to the next level.
It started raining HARD during the last part of the set, but that didn't slow anyone down. One of the most memorable shows I've ever experienced.
